Cutting Edge of Transplantation

March 5-7, 2020

Arizona Biltmore - Phoenix, AZ

Target Audience

The educational design of this activity addresses the needs of healthcare professionals (physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, nurses, and others) and researchers working in the field of transplantation.

Statement of Need/Program Overview

CEoT 2020 will be an exciting exploration of the hot topic of organ allocation and how the transplant community should consider the balance of equity and utility.  We will set the stage by looking at the ethics of allocating a scarce resource and the history as well as the current state of organ allocation.  The program will delve into potential alternatives for the OPTN structure.  Equity and utility will be discussed for each organ specifically with specialized tracks, as well as multi-organ transplantation.  The overarching goal is to systematically address the issues of organ allocation in order to reframe the discussion and improve the transplant community’s ability to move forward toward the future.

Educational Objective

The following overarching objectives and more specific goals have been identified for this meeting. Having participated in this meeting, attendees will be able to:

  •  Discuss the competing factors that drive national organ allocation policies
  •  Analyze equity and utility in transplant with an organ-specific focus
  •  Explore ways to handle the inherent conflict of allocating organs, a limited resource.
  •  Consider the future of transplant and how to move past our current constraints.
